2010 Emerging Legends
The Martin Luther King, Jr. Breakfast committee is pleased to recognize outstanding
community leaders who represent Dr. King’s dream: a testament that a dream is a
growing reality.
Simone Fuller
Caring deeply about her community, Simone Fuller finds creative ways to turn concern into action.
A student at Cristo Rey High School in south Minneapolis, Simone got involved in student leadership in a nontraditional manner. She didn’t run for student government, but organized her peers and collaborated with the Student Council to create the Cristo Rey Jesuit High School Service Committee. Through her leadership, the group launched a food drive that has become a tradition at the school. Using information, competition and personal testimony, Simone has inspired her fellow students to give.
Cristo Rey, a private, Catholic, college-prep high school, serves students from financially challenged families in the greater Twin Cities area. The school opened in August 2007, and currently has approximately 225 ninth, 10th and 11th grade students.
Prior to coming to Cristo Rey, Simone already had displayed a passion for service at the Sabathani Food Shelf and at the Family Enhancement Center in south Minneapolis, which strives to prevent child abuse.
Known for her smile and laughter, Simone is on the school’s high honor roll and sets an example for her fellow students … and for all of us.
The MLK Jr. Holiday Breakfast Committee congratulates Simone Fuller as the 2010 Emerging Legend award winner.
